The folks from Himeji, Japan, dropped their newest creation—the TC-202 iron—in March 2025, and it’s already turning heads among gearheads and purists alike. If you’re familiar with Miura, you know they don’t mess around. Their mantra is simple: no new club hits the market unless it’s a legit upgrade over what came before. And with the TC-202, they’ve taken the beloved TC-201, sprinkled some fresh magic on it, and delivered an iron that’s equal parts art and science.

The Design:

At its core, the TC-202 is a forged beauty, hammered out of premium S20C soft carbon steel and finished in that sleek satin chrome Miura is famous for. It’s got that classic players’ look—thin topline, minimal offset, shallow cavity—that screams control and shot-making. Think of it as a lovechild between the muscle-back vibes of the KM-700 blade and the forgiving soul of the CB-57. The toe profile even borrows a bit from the KM-700, nudging the center of gravity slightly toward the toe for extra stability on those not-quite-perfect strikes.

The real game-changer, though, is the T-Weight Bar. This isn’t just some fancy branding—it’s a clever bit of engineering in the cavity that shifts weight around depending on the club. In the long irons (3- and 4-irons), the bar sits lower and thicker, dropping the CG to help you launch it high and keep it forgiving. Flip to the short irons (9-iron and gap wedge), and it’s higher and more defined, giving you that muscle-back precision for pinpoint trajectories. The mid irons? They split the difference, offering a sweet spot of feel and consistency. It’s like Miura custom-tuned every club in the bag for its specific job—spin and distance stay dialed in, even if you catch it a little off the sweet spot.

Then there’s the Y-Grind leading edge, a nod to Yoshitaka Miura, one of the family’s next-gen craftsmen. This sole tweak—optimized leading and trailing edge relief—means the club glides through the turf like butter, making clean contact a little easier. It’s subtle, but if you’ve ever chunked a wedge shot, you’ll appreciate the thought here.

The Purpose: Feel Over Firepower

Let’s be real—the TC-202 isn’t chasing the distance crown. If you’re comparing it to, say, a TaylorMade P770, you might see a few yards less off the face. But that’s not the point. Miura built these for golfers who live for feel, control, and the ability to shape shots like a pro. Shinei Miura, who’s been with the company since ’94 and pioneered their Players Cavity Back designs, spearheaded this project. He leaned on feedback from tour pros, top amateurs, and cold, hard launch monitor data to refine every detail. The result? An iron that’s predictable, workable, and oh-so-satisfying when you flush it.

That soft, muted “thwack” at impact? Pure Miura. The way the ball flights stay consistent? That’s the T-Weight Bar doing its thing. It’s not a game-improvement club that’ll bail you out of every mishit—misses will cost you some distance—but it’s forgiving enough to keep you in the game without feeling like a pure blade’s punishment.

Who’s It For?

The TC-202 is aimed at the skilled player who wants the best of both worlds: the soul of a muscle-back with a dash of cavity-back mercy. If you’re the type who’d rather hit a controlled fade into a tucked pin than just bomb it and pray, these might be your new best friends. They’re not cheap—$350 a pop, available from 3-iron to gap wedge (right-hand only)—but for that price, you’re getting handcrafted perfection from a family that’s been forging irons since the ’50s.

The Bottom Line

Pre-orders kicked off March 11, 2025, with retail availability starting April 15, 2025, and the early buzz is strong. The TC-202 isn’t here to reinvent the wheel—it’s here to refine it, blending Miura’s old-school craftsmanship with modern tweaks like the T-Weight Bar and Y-Grind. It’s for golfers who value the journey as much as the destination, who’d take a buttery feel and a tight dispersion over a few extra yards any day. If that’s you, the TC-202 might just be your next obsession.
