Mini Drivers aren't new. First released by Callaway and TaylorMade, the rest of the industry has watched, taken notes, and slowly released their own. Titleist adds itself to the mix with their GT280, a club that promises to blend the best of driver power and fairway wood versatility into a compact, player-friendly package. Unveiled on April 1, 2025, the GT280 is the latest addition to Titleist’s acclaimed GT metalwood family, and it’s already generating buzz among golfers of all levels.

The GT280 arrives at a time when mini drivers are surging in popularity, offering an appealing middle ground for players seeking distance off the tee without sacrificing the control and playability of a fairway wood. With a 280cc head—smaller than a traditional driver but larger than most fairway woods—the GT280 is designed to fill that niche perfectly. Its 13-degree loft comes standard, though Titleist’s SureFit hosel allows for adjustments between 12.25 and 14.5 degrees, giving golfers the flexibility to dial in their preferred launch conditions. The stock shaft length, at 43.5 inches, is two inches shorter than the GT driver, making it easier to swing with precision while still delivering impressive distance.

What sets the GT280 apart is its incorporation of the same cutting-edge technology found in the broader GT lineup. The club features a seamless thermoform crown made from a proprietary matrix polymer, a lightweight material that enhances aerodynamics without compromising the center of gravity. This, paired with a titanium face, ensures the GT280 retains the signature Titleist feel and sound that loyalists crave. Additionally, the mini driver boasts forward and aft center-of-gravity adjustability, with an 11-gram weight in the back position and a 3-gram weight up front as standard. Golfers can flip these weights to fine-tune spin and launch, catering to those who want a penetrating ball flight or a higher trajectory.

Titleist’s journey to the GT280 began with player feedback, both from tour professionals and amateurs. The design process kicked off with a request from J.J. Van Wezenbeeck, Titleist’s Senior Director of Club Promotions, and evolved through prototypes like the TSR 2-wood, which debuted on tour in March 2024. Pros like Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris played a key role in refining the concept, testing early versions to ensure the club could perform off the tee and from the turf. The result is a mini driver that’s versatile enough to replace a driver on tight holes or serve as a powerful fairway option when chasing par-5s in two.

For the everyday golfer, the GT280 offers a compelling alternative to traditional setups. It’s forgiving enough to inspire confidence, yet powerful enough to keep up with modern distance demands. The softened sole curvature and low leading edge make it approachable at address, while the smaller head size aids in shot-shaping—a boon for players who struggle to work the ball with a full-sized driver. Early adopters, including pros like Alex Fitzpatrick, have already swapped their drivers for the GT280 in competition, signaling its potential to reshape bags at every level of the game.

Available in golf shops worldwide starting April 18, 2025, the GT280 marks Titleist’s bold entry into a category that’s no longer just a trend—it’s a staple. As mini drivers continue to carve out their place in the golfing world, Titleist’s meticulous approach to design and performance ensures the GT280 isn’t just following the pack; it’s setting a new standard. Whether you’re a tour player or a weekend warrior, this mini driver might just be the missing piece your bag’s been waiting for.
